“I was told I’d developed severe gum disease due to years of dental neglect. I had no idea as nothing was visible and was horrified that my previous dentist had not picked this up.”

Victoria underwent a year of treatment, including “deep pocket cleansing” and tooth extractions. This involved regular time off work and significant discomfort, so she decided to approach the Clinical Negligence Team.

AN OPEN AND SHUT CASE?

One of our dental negligence experts, Simon Elliman, pursued Victoria’s case, which, he says, is all too common a scenario. “There’s an obligation for dentists to monitor and treat gum disease but we still see many cases where patients have gone untreated for years.”

Simon was able to establish quickly that there was a negligence case to answer.
